About Jackson - 5 yr Rotti x Mallie ~ On Trial 16/9/20
Meet Jackson, a 5 year old Rottweiler x Alaskan Malamute who is big , beautiful and a real love-bug. If you love Rotti’s or Mallie’s then you’re going to love this big bear who takes his cuddles seriously - putting his paws up on his family or even strangers to “hug” them.
Jackson absolutely loves meeting new people and laps up any attention they give him. He ambles over to his people for pats and treats if they are on offer - he sits nicely for rewards and takes them gently. This boy is a sweet and gentle shmoocher who thinks he’s a teeny tiny lapdog.
Due to Jackson’s size we are looking for a family who is confident with large dogs and used to the daily challenges of having such a big and strong dog. He loves his daily walks but is understandably strong on lead so all members of his new family will need to be confident walking a dog of his size. When he’s out and about he gets excited when he sees other dogs - but he can be selective with the dogs he wants to socialise with. Jackson doesn’t like staffies or other excitable dogs who are boisterous or in his face. He used to live with a small dog and was fine but we haven’t seen him socialise with other small dogs since being in foster care. He’s not a dog-park dog at this stage of his training - he’d find them way too over-stimulating.
Jackson is in foster care with two male Rotti’s and he’s great with them - it did take a little time and effort to get them all living in harmony. So if you have an existing large-sized dog who is placid and friendly then he may be a good match for you. Just remember that settling in a new dog of Jackson’s size with another dog will require some work getting them living and sharing nicely together.
Jackson may also suit being an only dog as long as he gets a lot of attention and isn’t left alone for long hours whilst you work. He would ideally love a lifestyle where someone works from home so that he can hang out with you most of the day. Due to Jackson adoring his humans so much he won’t be suited to being a yard-only dog - he needs to be allowed inside when you’re at home.
We are looking for a family who is experienced in either Rottweiler or Alaskan Malamute ownership and are happy to love a boy who is the perfect blend of the two breeds. He won’t suit first time dog owners or people without large dog experience. We’d also suggest he’s best in a home with no toddlers or kids under 15 years - toddlers will get toppled over accidentally by this big chunk of a boy - especially if he jumps up to “hug” them.
Jackson would love a grassy yard to play and chill out in . Being a big boy he’ll need tall, solid fencing and he is too big for small yards or townhouses. Due to his Malamute breed mix he is very fluffy so he’ll need a family who can commit to his grooming and aren’t concerned about fluff on their furniture! He isn’t suited to a home with cats, chickens or pocket pet as they are way too interesting to him (in a snack-size way!)
