Hi there. I’m Bear. I’m a 12-month-old border collie x kelpie boy.
I’m a sweet, happy boy and I’m looking for my forever family. I’d best suit an active family that will include me in their everyday lives. A home where someone is home most of the time. I’d prefer a family with no children or kids over the age of 12-years. I need a calm, consistent and fair home that has experience with the border collie breed. One that understands our breed quirks and is willing to provide lifelong training & love. In return, I will be your loyal best friend.
I prefer small breed dogs or non-dominant female dogs. I’m a bit picky with my larger dog breed friends therefore, I need a proper introduction. I react to undesexed male dogs. Once I decide I like a dog, I’m all up for a good game of chase & bitey face. If I was to be an only dog, I must have the opportunity to have regular play dates and walks with my chosen canine friends.
Since coming into foster care I’ve started my basic training. I’m food motivated & enjoy my training sessions. I’m a clever boy & learn quickly. I’ve learnt my name; I sit & wait for my food & I’m walking well on lead. I go on bush walks with my foster family and foster dog siblings and don’t stray far from mum. I like to run back and check in with her regularly. I do resource guard my food against other dogs, so am fed alone. Foster mum knows I have good reason to feel protective of my food and is working on this with me. I will need someone who is willing to continue my training to build my confidence.
I currently sleep inside in my crate or outside in my lovely warm kennel with my foster brothers. I’m a good boy and sleep quietly through the night. I’m not a nuisance barker. I live with chickens and pay no attention to them in their enclosure or when they have free range time, although I have not yet been in the same yard with them. I'm respectful of the cats here but I cannot live with pocket pets.
I’m searching for a family who understands the needs of working breeds. A home that can provide me with both physical & mental stimulation. If you think you can provide me with my perfect forever home my foster mum would love to hear from you.
Love & licks,
Bear ❤
