About Max
Hi there, my name is Maximus, or Max for short.
As any Latin expert will tell you; Maximus means the “greatest”. You might have seen Russell Crowe act in a little movie called the Gladiator using my name.
My foster-mum sometimes calls me Bandit, firstly because of my Zorro-looking facial markings and secondly because I can raid food left unattended on a counter top in 0.32 par seconds. But you can, with love and patience, teach me how not to do that.
It’s rude to ask such a handsome man his age, but I think I am about 18 months old. Sadly, only my name is Latin, as we think I might be a Koolie cross Kelpie mix.
I am amazing at so many things. Here’s a list of my best qualities:
- I love people and don’t mind sitting on your lap or at your feet whilst you do not much at all;
- I can walk on the lead without pulling, though I need a bit more exposure to difference places, people and dogs as I have mostly hung out at my foster mums property!
- I am good with cats!
- I am not fussed by chickens or ducks if they are on the other side of the fence;
- Once introduced I can be friends with horses and goats too;
- I love to please my foster-mum and for a little nugget of food I am at your whim;
- I am crate trained at night, but I don’t mind a snuggle on a bed with my favourite human;
- I love to play with other dogs, especially my foster-brother Jake, we can play for hours and hours and zoomies are the best! I can be a bit rough sometimes, but it hasn't taken me long to learn to play gently with him as he is smaller than me.
- I have been learning tug o war and my foster-mum has my very own special tug o war toy that I play with her and then she puts it away for another special time;
- I have just about got the hang of place training and would love to continue to learn and eventually master this skill
- I can sit, lay down and shake hands, but would love to learn some more basic obedience.
Like the best of us, I have a few flaws too but with my good looks and eagerness to learn and please I just know I can learn to overcome these things with some more training!
- I can get a bit insecure around new people and noises, but if you reassure me and train me to ignore those things, I soon learn that they aren't scary at all!
- I sometimes bark when you first leave the house, but I settle very quickly;
- I can become a bit resource guarding of my human and will push out a less dominant dog to get the pats. A more dominant dog may take issue with this part of my personality. Luckily this can also be minimised with the right amount of BAT (Behaviour Adjustment Training) training which my rescue can give you some tips on!
- I can jump 4-foot fences like a Gazelle pronking through the African Savannah. So, you will need something bigger than that, so I don’t try to follow you to work or out on your run; 6 foot colour bond fencing is my preference =)
All in all, I am really a good boy and my foster-family are going to miss me more than a lot. I am looking for a forever family with a parent or two that will help me to continue my training. I must have a home with secure fencing and if there is a similar sized doggy for me to play with, that would be amazing!
