About Sprocket
Sprocket was rescued from a laboratory, where he'd lived for his entire 2 years of life. As you can expect, he has found life outside a lab to be quite overwhelming. Normally when we rescue rabbits, we'll wait a couple of weeks, till they settle in and we get to know who they are. This helps us match them to the right family. However, Sprocket will take months to settle, learn, and show his true self. It's more important that he finds a forever home to be loved in, so with that in mind, we've chosen to start his search for a home sooner than later.
Sprocket hasn't been exposed to things most bunnies have experienced. Everything is new for him, and taking things slowly is important. Sprocket needs to learn to trust humans, before a bond can be formed. He is comfortable seeing us walk past his enclosure, but cowers at any offer of touch. He does not yet see any benefit in making friends with us. Given his experiences, there are a few possibilities on how he can move forward. It's important to understand with prey animals, that the gentle, soft approach is the only way. Once Sprocket realises he has nothing to fear, we might see some territorial behaviours/aggression come forward. This defence tactic can only be dealt with by understanding, and continuing softly and gently. He may not go through a territorial phase, but it is a possibility. The next phase, is where the real magic can happen. Failing to intimidate, curiosity will overcome the fear, and some serious head rubs can form a bond with his new mum or dad. But, we're talking months here. There is no quick fix for the years of socialisation these buns have failed to receive.
Sprocket's new home needs to be special one. One that understands the importance of stability, unwavering love and security. A gentle, caring, mature household. One where their confidence can slowly flourish, and they can experience all the wonderful things other bunnies take for granted.
