Hi everyone!
My name is Pearl. I am a loving, loyal and enthusiastic little girl in search of my new home! My story began with tragedy but I am now safe, healthy and ready for my new life. Let me tell you about myself. Soon you'll understand why I am a special girl and deserve the very best.
My owners bred my parents, and some of the litter died. They didn't know why... they did not attend a vet. When my breeder contacted Off The Chain K9 Rescue Qld to offload the last of the litter a few days later, the rescue said yes- and that they would desex my mum for free, too. What a deal! A time was made to collect me and my remaining siblings. There were just 4 of us left - Patrick, Spongebob, Pearl and Sandy- The Spongebob Litter! At the meet, we were happy and running around like normal puppies. Unfortunately, that didn't last for long. We were collected late afternoon and by midnight, it was obvious something was wrong. The happy, bouncing puppies we were at collection were gone and instead, we were lethargic and hiding. It seemed more than the usual stress of being taken from mum and dad.
Our carers watched us like hawks overnight and went right to the vet in the morning. Unfortunately tests came back positive for the dreaded parvovirus. We went straight into the isolation ward for fluids, pain relief and antibiotics. It was all so frustrating. If my parents had been vaccinated, and our litter vaccinated too at 6 weeks old, this wouldn't be happening! Parvo is such a painful and scary virus. Our intestines were being attacked by this virus and we couldn't keep food down. Thankfully our carers are diligent and fast acting so within 1 day of treatment we had all really perked up and felt way better. After a few more days of treatment as precaution, all 4 of us were released from the clinic with prescription diets and lots of snuggles and pats for good luck.
We bounced back from parvo quickly and you'd never know we've had that terrible virus! We are the lucky in that we have no long term effects of being ill. We are all fully vaccinated, desexed etc and perfectly happy and healthy. My dad was a bull mastiff x, and my mum was a shepherd x mastiff. Both have gentle, loving natures. I am expected to reach 40kg as an adult, and mid thigh height on a 170cm adult human.
So my personality...
My current carer has other dogs, and I absolutely adore them. I also love human children! I haven't learned how to walk on a leash yet, but that will come quickly we think- I am very food orientated so easy to train. I sleep outside on the patio at night and am housetrained for when I come inside. My fence is 6ft timber and I don't seem to understand there is a world on the other side of it- no desire to escape from me! I understand my basic commands, and am absolutely amazingly well behaved at the vet!! I sit patiently and calmly and am easy to work with. I have no known phobias, and am fine with the mower, vacuum, and storms.
I am used to being home alone 10hrrs a day while my carers are at work. I don't mind, I just play with my dog friends and sunbake! I sit patiently in the car when we are going on adventures, and my favourite toys are balls, ropes and treat dispensers eg Kongs. I would suit any family that will take me out a few times a week to run, sniff and explore the world, and will let me be part of the family. I would suit full time workers as long as there is another dog at home for company. If you don't have other dogs, I would probably need a carer who is home more often- I have never been all alone during the day so it would be hard for me to adjust to.
So what do you think? Could I be the one for you?
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:
- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other pets they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we infrequently have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk with us about possibility of travel to you.
At the meet if you and the pet get along you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for signed contract and the full adoption fee paid upfront) or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days with a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have removed your hold or adopted the animal.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters, so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit is non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $75 is non-refundable.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; if for example you are adopting a young animal it may not have had a full protocol yet due to age- so any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must notify OTC, and present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic we direct you to in your area. OTC will cover any treatment needed at our authorised clinics.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox. (www.facebook.com/offthechaink9)
