About Mishka ~ 12mo Foxhound x (On Trial 28/4/20)
I'm a hound dog! Arooooo! oooooo! ooooo!
Hi there, my name is Mishka, and I’m an English Foxhound cross. I am 12 months old, and even though I’ve got some gorgeous supermodel long legs and don’t look like a tiny puppy anymore, I’ve got a whole lot of super puppy energy left to go. I am looking for a forever family, but not just any home will do. I’m a hound dog, and us hound dogs...well...you know we’ve got a big reputation, we even inspired Elvis to sing about us. No offence to the king of rock ‘n roll, but you’d definitely want to be a friend of mine. 😎
I need a family that understands my unique breed, and everything that comes with the territory of owning and loving a Foxhound. This can’t be stated enough, I am a pack hound, I cannot be alone. I’m whip smart, incredibly fast, need daily exercise and a good sized yard to play in, I need a K9 companion I can play and bond with, and is at an age where my energy levels won’t be overwhelming to my new brother or sister (not a senior dog).
Because I am so smart, if I’m not mentally stimulated (nose work is a favourite activity) I will find a “job” to do. Trust me, you may not like the “job” I choose for myself, which is why it’s important my forever family equally understands and is truly committed to what I need. If you leave me to my own devices, you’ll discover very quickly just what these tunneling ready claws I was born with are capable of.
I cannot be isolated, I need to be with my “pack”, and ideally would be welcome indoors, included in daily life with my family and have access outside anytime as well through a doggy door (which I love to slide through at lightning speed). I’m house-trained, I already know how to sit, lie down, and shake on command, and I am highly trainable, but I’ve also got that hallmark hound stubbornness. You won’t win me over with forceful training methods. I need positive, appropriate training and redirection, and praise when I’m making all the right moves. I love a trip to the beach, a sniff around the neighbourhood, and can even jump on a trampoline, but these supermodel legs give me a massive boost, so at home you’ll need tall, sturdy fencing. I must be on a lead when I’m out for a walk until I’m in a secured area, because if I catch a scent that intrigues me, my hound tunnel vision may take control.
I’m not suitable for full time workers, I need a home where I’ve got my people home a lot of the time, and my doggy companion by my side all the time. I’m with my foster family now, and it just so happens that I ended up with my sister and her adopted brother from another mother. I’m absolutely loving that companionship of other four-legged friends. I didn’t have that at my last home and I became incredibly lonely and destructive. I am learning my manners, boundaries with my friends, and all the things that come with having the routine and structure I need. I’m thriving at my foster home now, so my foster mum wants to make sure when I do go to my forever family, it’s nothing less than the best.
