About Barney
PLEASE DON'T APPLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ANOTHER DOG.
Barney absolutely MUST go to a home with another young, confident and playful dog and requires an owner who is willing to gently bring him to his full potential over time. He is flighty and jittery so can be apprehensive in new environments, which for a dog who’s never known the world, is anything and everything.
Barney needs an owner who can bring out the best in him over time in a positive and kind way and one which will continue to work daily with him in the outside world. Experience with nervous dogs is essential.
As he will need some extra time and attention he will need an owner who does not work 5 days a week away from the home.
Barney loves other dogs, is okay with cats and would suit a home with no children or children over the age of 16 who are gentle and kind and will let Barney come to them in his own time. He needs to be allowed on your furniture as this is where he’s most comfortable and must have access inside always.
He is easily won over with food, is toilet trained in his current foster environment (he has had a few accidents but prefers to do his business outside). His new home will be another new environment so they should be prepared to do some initial work with him to set him up to succeed with toilet training in the new environment.
Barney needs a fair amount of stimulation to prevent some minor destructive behaviors. Long walks and games are enough to prevent him from becoming destructive. He also needs a puppy-proof home, as he does show some pica like symptoms (compelled to ingest non-food items)
Barney overall is a sweet-natured boy who loves playing with toys and cuddling in bed. He does need an owner who can put in the hard yards to give him the time to develop his confidence in the outside world and can give him the life he deserves.
PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT HAVE AN APPLICATION FORM. If you think you can offer Barney the home and support he needs to continue his development then please email us with as much information on the home you are can provide Barney including your other pets, children etc and detailing your previous experience working with nervous dogs.
