From SAFE site click on Apply to Adopt
Jake is a friendly boy who will suit a quiet, adult-only household where he can be a companion dog. He will not suit a home with children as they make him anxious and he can react. He would be fine with teens or older and has a loving and sweet nature with adults. He knows basic commands and will sit nicely for treats, or a pat. A home where someone is home at least part of the day would be ideal for this handsome little fellow and he needs to be allowed inside where he can be sitting near his people or on their lap, and where the temperature is comfortable for him. He seems to get along fine with other small dogs. He's in care with cats but he will react to them if they swipe him. Will chase chickens if free ranging.
French Bulldogs don't regulate their temperature very well and so can struggle in heat and also in very low temps. While he enjoys regular exercise, in the hot months Jake needs to be walked when it's cool, such as early morning or late evening, to avoid putting his breathing under too much strain... he won't ever be an Olympic runner but will enjoy a regular stroll. He will also need to keep his weight at around 10kg to keep him healthy.
If you have a place in your household for this gorgeous little boy, and have a quietish, loving home, we would love to hear from you. Please note that our adoption application process includes filling in our SAFE Bunbury Enquiry Form in full, and attaching photos of your yard, fencing, patio area etc (yard check in person will be done if in Bunbury area).
Please see medical notes for Jake, below.
MEDICAL NOTES
Adoption fee includes vet check with flea and worm treatment. Jake is vaccinated, sterilised and microchipped (adoption fee includes transfer of ownership). The fee does not include heartworm treatment.
Jake had surgery just under 2 years ago to widen his nasal cavities to allow him to breathe a little easier (snub nosed breeds like French Bulldogs may struggle with breathing especially in heat or when stressed). The surgery improved his breathing comparative to pre surgery however as mentioned above, it's still important to take into consideration the special needs of this breed in regards to exercise levels and keeping them in a regulated temperature.
