About Mac
Cuddly and sweet, adorably bubbly and affectionate. Laid back yet sociable, this guy loves people - but is happy to chill out and do his own thing as well, and enjoys his quiet time too.
Mac loves his food and loves his toys, enjoys a cuddle and to sit in your arms - or to chill out and keep himself occupied. Content both indoors and outdoors, a secure and protected outdoor area is a must.
Seemingly wise beyond his years at times, yet very much a pup at heart - this beautiful boy will make a great family pet and companion.
A young pup who needs training and guidance, Cockers are known to be sensitive at times - so experience with the breed is preferred.
Please read this listing in full, and understand all that is detailed.
Mac will only be available to family homes in Sydney, and is not available for interstate adoption - or families more than an hour away from the Ryde area.
Mac will require ongoing specialist care throughout his life, and must continue to see SASH Vets for his more complex medical needs.
Due to Macs medical conditions, it is important his adopters understand he is not your average dog. He is not suitable to have off lead, at dog parks, in pack situations of numerous dogs, and will require supervision when socialising with other dogs. Due to vision impairment, there is potential to misread body language or not visualise cues given by other dogs. This could be problematic and dangerous, for all involved.
*** PLEASE CONTACT BY EMAIL AS PREFERRED CONTACT - Due to being a one man show without added support or volunteers, I am not always available to make phone calls. Email contact is preferred, please be patient and understanding - between vets, work, and caring for the animals, responses may not always be immediate.
Medical notes
Mac has been seeing the ophthalmology specialist department at SASH vets, where he is required to continue attending throughout his life. These consultations are required to be booked in advance with the specialists, and if/when surgery is required, this can be costly. Pet insurance will not cover pre-existing conditions, and Mac's potential adopters need to understand and be not only aware, but prepared for these visits and ongoing costs.
Mac has been diagnosed with a pupillary membrane remnant in his right eye, and though this is unlikely to cause complications in itself - the remnant does create a blind spot, and he has no vision where the remnant is present.
As a result, though Macs vision is impaired - he is not inflicted - as the blind spot is minor and not inhibiting his function or quality of life.
During Mac's specialist consultations, he has also been diagnosed with cataracts - which primarily affects his right eye, and there are imperfections on his left eye. This is not currently inhibiting him, but there is potential for this to progress in future. The cataracts may render him blind by 12 months of age, or may not affect him or progress at all until later in life. Cataract surgery will be required in this case, which is exceptionally expensive - and his adopters must be prepared for these costs (if and when required).
** Please note, if you do not reside in Sydney, are unable to return to SASH Vets for specialist care, and are not prepared to spend/save the funds required for specialist ophthalmology surgery - PLEASE DO NOT APPLY - This is to ensure all our time and efforts can be put in the right direction, to ensure Mac goes to a suitable home. **
