If you think gorgeous Charlie looks familiar, it could be because you may have seen him in the news earlier this year. Astonishingly, Charlie survived falling 18 storeys from an apartment balcony, but shattered his jaw and leg.
Now fully recovered from his horrific injuries, Charlie is a happy, healthy boy and is on the hunt for his perfect forever home!
Due to his fall and the extensive surgery to repair his jaw, Charlieโs mouth does not close all the way, as his jaw is no longer properly aligned. This has resulted in him having a very cheeky โsurprisedโ look, as well as more often than not, having his tongue out!
While it was initially thought that Charlie would have to โlapโ liquified food for the rest of his life, he was having none of that and now manages to eat most things, including dry food! His new home will however need to be mindful of what he is fed, to ensure he is easily able to manage it. When he first arrived, Charlie drooled profusely, resulting in a rash on his chest from the moisture. We solved this problem by putting little bandanas on him, to collect the drool and keep his skin dry, which worked a treat! While he will go to his new home with his wardrobe of bandanas, he actually no longer drools enough to need to wear them and now only requires the odd chin wipe. Charlie still has a metal pin in his leg and he often holds that leg up, but his vets believe this is more out of habit than anything else, as he shows no sign of pain. There is a chance that the pin may move in the future and need to be removed, but at this stage his vets thinks itโs unlikely. Despite his crooked grin, Charlieโs jaw is completely healed and should not need any further attention, but he will need regular dentals (possibly as regularly as once a year), depending on how his teeth cope with his new mouth shape/eating style.
Charlieโs recovery is nothing short of amazing, considering what he went through and his new home will be given all of his medical history from the day he fell, as well as access to his surgeons, should they have any questions going forward.
Now for the important stuff! A bit about Charlie and the kind of home heโs looking for!
Charlie is a very active cat who is working on making the Olympic wrestling team (after failing his audition as Spiderman's stunt-double ๐), and thus is looking to fill two positions; that of sparring partner and of referee! Sparring applicants must be of the feline variety, but can't be posers, they need to be serious about playing!! Referee applicants must respond well to his 'was-that-a-baby?' cry, and give LOTS of hugs. But not too many. Just enough hugs exactly. Those who require personal space, such as going to the toilet by themselves, need not apply! ๐
It is important however, not to let his athletic prowess fool you; Charlie's body shape is more double choc chip muffin than it is carrot cake! :P As Charlie is now approaching โfestively plumpโ territory, his food intake will need to be monitored going forward, to ensure he doesnโt end up carrying extra weight on his pinned leg.
Youโd think with all heโs been through and the changes to his appearance, Charlie might be a little bit self-conscious, but while he may now have a prominent Jay-Lenno-esk jawline, he is certainly not lacking in confidence, in fact heโll be the one looking at you like you've got something in your teeth!
All joking aside, Charlie is a very active and interactive boy who would get bored as an only cat and is looking for a mature, committed home with at least one confident, active cat as a playmate. He is looking for humans who are happy for him to โhelpโ them with just about everything and where he is not without someone at home for long hours.
Charlie is in care in Glenroy
