About Baggins Pickersgill
Bilbo Baggins is in permanent care.
Legend has it that Baggins Pickersgill was originally raised to be a sheep farm working dog but was surrendered because he was too kind to the sheep. After that he was adopted by a groundsman who worked in parks and gardens where Baggins would run free most of the day. Baggins lost his beloved person under sudden and traumatic circumstances. He never got a chance to say goodbye.
Baggins is a sweet, highly sociable boy. He is an independent Koolie who has places to go and people and dogs to meet. He loves following his people around and has attached quite strongly to a few key people in his life. He is a delightful and active six years young. He is always up for a long walk or a bit of tug or ball play. Baggins is house trained; he is a gentleman and wouldn't dream of leaving a house untidy. Baggins walks well on the lead – off lead, typically he will recall...in his own time.
Baggins loves other dogs but also knows when a dog doesn't want to meet him and he simply gives other such dogs their space. Baggins will never be involved in a spat; he is too intuitive and wise.
Baggins isn’t great with cats. He thinks they should be barked at and harassed, and he is certain to grow an extra metre in size and attitude when he encounters a feline.
He is happy and healthy now but was once very overweight (43kgs) which led to him developing diabetes, then cataracts and eventually going blind. VicDRG arranged cataract surgery and Baggins now has his sight back. He has a mild hip issue which is being corrected with exercise and physiotherapy. Baggins' new family will have to be prepared to work hard to ensure he has the most appropriate diet for his condition.
Baggins would love to be on a property with his people and ideally other dogs. He enjoys lying in the sun but when it is cold he likes to sleep on the bed.
Baggins likes to roll; in grass, in poop, in the sunlight. Rolling makes him happy! We have been told he likes a bath so much that he lays down in the water. Mostly Baggins sleeps in his own bed in the lounge room but on occasions, he has been known to like to snuggle in bed. This happens mainly when he is feeling a bit insecure.
Absolutely everyone who meets this dog loves him. He has dog charisma in spades. Everyone wants to keep him. It will be a special person who does.
Thank you to Lyndsay of Paw Focus Photography for the fantastic photos of
Baggins.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer a six-week full refund, free assistance for six weeks for any issues, and a lifetime takeback policy with a fifty percent refund of the adoption fee, and of course an invitation to our adopters’ Christmas party.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
