It's finally time for us to start looking for a perfect forever home for our bonded siblings Otto and Sina. They joined our rescue as 12 week old kittens through a private surrender. These siblings are incredibly bonded and will only be rehomed together.
Otto is an absolute attention seeker and must be smothering his humans as much as possible. He is cheeky, playful, and so loving. Sina is a little more reserved and tends to sit back and wait for the perfect opportunity to come and cuddle her humans. She's gentle and calm in nature but does still love to rough and tumble with her brother. These babies have grown up in a home with other cats and dogs and would be suited to nearly any home environment. Our babies climb, jump, and run like crazy - just a little differently to other kittens.
Otto and Sina have a congenital condition called "Radial Agenesis" which simply means they are missing the radial bone in both of their front legs. This is caused by complications in utero, inbreeding, and/or health issues of their mum. Our babies have seen a specialist surgeon who gave us the okay to rehome them, and has given them a great prognosis. Both babies do have options for surgery later down the track IF required, and this information will be passed onto their new family. When you meet them you will notice that they walk on their front legs very differently to other cats their age. Having no radius means their ulner bone has to take all of the weight on it's own. Their elbow joint can dislocate and will develop some arthritis as they get older. The surgeon has told us there isn't anything we can do to fix their elbows, we just need to make sure their new family takes the very best of care of them.
Conditions of adoption:
• Both babies must be rehomed together. This isn't negotiable so please don't ask.
• Our babies must go to an indoor only home unless they have access to a safe and secure outdoor enclosure.
• Otto and Sina MUST be kept at a lean body weight. The surgeon strongly emphasised this. He has recommended that they always stay slightly under normal body weight to avoid any additional strain on their joints. They will require a high quality diet of kitten food for a few more months which will then need to be changed over to a high quality indoor/weight specific food with lower calories. When they reach a year old it may also be beneficial to add in some joint supplement to their diet.
• Both of our babies will be required to return to our selected veterinary clinic at 12 months of age for a check up exam with our vets. This is to make sure they are growing well, and their joints are still pain free. The surgeon who looks after their case is very interested to watch how they develop as they get older, and we will provide him with updates. The cost of this appointment will be covered by our rescue. This also isn't negotiable, if this isn't possible for your family please do not apply.
• Their new owners must understand that they are adopting two very unique kittens who have a fairly rare condition. We cannot
Medical notes
Otto and Sina were born with Radial Agenesis which simply means they were born without a radial bone in both of their front legs. They also have changes in most of their limb joints, especially their front legs, but small changes in their hips also. Their medical history and condition will be discussed at length with interested families during their meet and greet.
