About Pikk
Just like her name she wants to be first Pikk!
Pikk is a small girl with energy to burn! Don’t think her little legs can't keep up as she will outrun you any day.
She is a friendly girl who loves showing her family affection especially with her tongue and the target is always your face. She enjoys quiet nights in on the lounge, sprawling her long body over your lap and being showered in all the pats she deserves.
One thing that she loves more the attention is her walks. This girl loves the outside world and her smile is never bigger then when she is checking out all the smells and exploring at a very quick pace. Don’t be fooled her little body as strength and her excitement gets in the way of loose leash walking.
Little Pikk is only young but has not had any interactions with other dogs prior to coming into care. Initially she was very fearful of other dogs, causing her to bark at other dogs on walks. She has developed a lot of confidence and now even is showing signs of wanting to play. We are looking for a family that won't tolerate any barking and will continue to work on her confidence so she can see dogs as friends. Pikk is currently attending weekly group dog training sessions where she is interacting with dogs in a controlled environment and starting to enjoy their company, while learning some obedience. This does not rule out a home with another dog but a family that understands her enjoyment and confidence around the other dog will take some time. This would be expected to take a week or so. The other dog must be confident to lead a good example and preferably still playful to teach her play skills.
Pikk does show some typical breed characteristics of a dachshund, such as a high prey drive. She will not be suitable for a home with cats or pocket pets.
Pikk is used to spending the day home alone and will tolerate a working family as long as she is provided exercise and cuddle time around working commitments. Pikk has not had much interactions around little children and still finds them scary! A bit like dogs so slow introductions are required and futher confidents training here.
Pikk is great in the car and will just curl up and have a sleep or be your co-pilot helping with directions. This is great news so she will be able to travel everywhere on all the adventures and outings. She is not at the stage of off-leash time and unsure if this will ever be the case. Continued training might allow this freedom in the future, however fenced parks and leashed walks are recommended.
Pikk is not suited to living in a unit, she requires a backyard.
The ideal family for this girl is a family looking for a small dog but not a lap dog. She requires a lot of exercise and being young still needs training. A family who understands they will need to attend group dog training classes and continue her exposure to the outside world. She needs tough love to show her life is not scary and not to baby her when she is unsure. She gets her confidence from her leader. And finally she wants a family to stretch out her long body with on the lounge while she dreams her long exploring walks.
If she ticks your boxes and you tick her boxes please fill out an application and we will see if you are her Pikk.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
