About Hugo
All About Me and My Unique Personality:
Our beautiful gentle giant has been through some pretty rough times and didn't have a lot of trust in anyone or anything when he first came into care.
He was in a lot of pain and couldn't walk much let alone stand and was so scared he just wanted to keep his distance from everyone,
but Hugo is a different boy these days. He has the most loving, sweet nature for a young boy who has been through so much.
He is still recovering but doing so much better and now loves pretty much everyone, especially the ladies so be prepared for big sloppy kisses and cuddles but he can be a bit standoffish with some men. He now displays normal puppy (albeit a rather large one) behaviour and loves a good game of pounce with his foster carer as well.
The big fella will happily sleep the day away but also loves a good wrestle or a game of tug of war with his foster sister Ruby or a gentle stroll to the park and back to see whats going on in the world.
He is great in the car and doesn't mind an outing but his favourite thing is just hanging out with his humans.
His training took some time because he was too sick to start with but he is doing really well now and is very responsive to affection and praise. He can still be a bit shy and timid in strange places or around strange people but he is getting more and more confident every day and his curiosity usually gets the better of him and will now want to investigate.
He happily sits and waits for his dinner and is mat and crate trained and responds to verbal commands well and is easily distracted when he is caught being naughty. He is still a puppy after all, just a really big one.
Everyone who meets him falls head over heels.
My Ideal Home:
Hugo will need a loving, patient family who understands he is a work in progress and will continue what we have started and give him the time and attention he needs and deserves.
Although he is improving he still stresses out a bit if left alone for too long so preferably with someone who doesn't work full time.
He needs a decent sized secure yard with strong fences and gates and must have access to inside to be with his people because that is where he is happiest.
He would need to meet any doggy friends he may be living with to make sure they get on. And probably around his own size.
Because he is a big strong boy these days, he needs to keep up with his training to make sure he knows his boundaries.
What is Known About My Background:
Hugo was picked up as a stray in terrible condition and in a lot of pain and came to us as a duty of care because he was too sick to stay at the pound.
How Do I Interact with Kids, Dogs, Cats and Other Pets:
Loves kids but preferably older ones. Hugo doesn't know how big he is and can easily knock them over.
Great with other dogs if introduced properly but has shown he can be a bit selective and probably best to have big doggy friends, he's not too keen on little ones.
He's met a few cats at the vet and at HAR outings and is a bit curious but didn't really show much interest and would have to meet any potential kitty siblings first to make sure they will get on.
Hugo hasn't met any small pets or birds.
