About Ziggy
Our dear Ziggy is a very sweet and goofy boy. You won't be able to resist patting his belly when he stretches out into one of his trademark goofy roaches!
We think Ziggy had a rough start to life, and as a result he can be shy of new people and quite fearful of men in particular. For this reason, he needs a home with a family who is empathetic to his nervousness and willing to take things slowly, helping him build his trust and confidence in his new environment. Men in particular, will need to be patient and let him come to you when he is ready. We know this can be done, as he was extremely nervous when he met his foster family, and has learned how to be a happy and balanced dog during his time with them. His foster home will have lots of helpful advice for you, and you will be very supported during his settling in period.
Watching Ziggy bloom into a confident and happy boy as he settles in, chasing his squeaky toys, doing a few 'zoomies', and sprawling on your couch will be one of the most rewarding things you ever do! He's quite a clever boy and has been really receptive to training. He has the basic obedience commands down pat, and is progressing to more challenging things such as self control games with treats.
Ziggy is currently living in a home with another greyhound. He does tend to look to his doggy companion for confidence, especially on walks, so another home with a greyhound or large dog would be great. However, most of all Ziggy needs his humans. We think he would be happy living as an only dog, lapping up all his humans love, provided he had people who were home most of the time. A retired couple, or someone who works from home and will continue to do so would be perfect.
Because Ziggy can get anxious when left alone in a new place, his ideal family will have the time to slowly build his confidence and undertake some separation training. Again, we have some handy tips for helping him adjust to this but ideally his new family could be home with him most of the time, especially for the first few weeks as he settles in.
Ziggy's sweet personality will melt your heart. If you think you have a heart to match his and patience to slowly help him bond with you, we would love to hear from you.
** Ziggy is not small animal tolerant and would not be suited to a home with cats **
