About Chester π
At 9 years young, this gorgeous boy is hoping to find that special home to settle down and live the life he deserves....
Chester came to us in March this year, and during a routine surgery (desex), they discovered he had a Grade 4 heart murmur. This came as a shock to us all, as this little man was full of life and seemed quite healthy and active for his age. The good news is, he's had some scans and check ups, and they are quite happy with how he's coping and currently not requiring heart medication. At this stage, his heart is not enlarged. He will however need heart medication in the future, and this is something that will be required for the rest of his life.
When he needs to start this medication, will depend on his lifestyle and diet and how much pressure is placed on his heart. He needs to stay lean, be living in a calm, stress free home and have minimal exercise.
Chester is an absolute delight to foster....he is currently living with 4 other dogs (small/medium and ranging in age from 3-12 years). He loves everyone. He is toilet trained, crate trained and will sit for his dinner. He also loves food, so much so, if you dropped food on the floor with Chester around, he would have that cleaned up before you saw it hit the floor! Chester is also child friendly but would prefer him to be around older kids who understand his condition and needs.
This sweet little man would love nothing more than to snuggle on your lap or at your feet. He will follow you around the house and yard, watch you eat meals, be your loyal little companion and take all the pats and affection you have to offer. If he was to be rehomed with another dog, they would need to be a quiet, friendly dog. We do not want to put him in a situation where he will be stressed and cause any further issues with his heart.
He has recently started on Apoquel (16mg), which he has been prescribed due to his itchy skin. Again, diet may be a contributing factor to this problem and since arriving in his current foster home, he has not been itching excessively, so we are hoping that this medication will not be long term.
We would love to find Chester his very own home, but we do understand that it is a big committment for someone to take on. He is certainly not in any danger of being pts and he is more than welcome to stay with us for as long as it takes to find that special person to love him like we do. Chester does not need saving, he just needs a place to call home.
All his vet work is now done. He has recently had a check up for his heart, which all went great, so all that's left to do, is find him a forever home. Chester is located in Hamlyn Terrace on the Central Coast, NSW and available for a meet as soon as his foster mum can organise it.
