About Ben (& Bill)
Generally.
Bill and Ben are great pals and cannot be separated. While both are extremely affectionate, Bill is a little more needy and cuddly where as Ben is more active, adventurous and mindful. They love each other and everyone else too.
You will know if you have not been giving them enough attention as they will start to compete for your affection but they sort it out within seconds.
They love to be part of the human pack. Bill and Ben will be your friendly, loyal and loving companions.
Ideal home.
Bill and Ben will thrive in a home where they are welcome to be part of family activities including car rides. As they are people orientated they will suit homes where they are not left alone for more then 6 hrs.
You will need to be ready to show love and be loved – lots of it too. They would enjoy a secure backyard with room to explore and sun to rest in. A walk every second day is fine.
Their new owner will need to understand that while the dogs have made friends with other little dogs in the past, they have not been socialised for many years and tend to be defensive with other dogs when on a lead (details below).
They will not suit homes where residents are very young, frail, elderly, renters or time poor.
Other dogs?
When on a lead, Bill and Ben tend to be reactive. Pack oriented, they tend to be defensive around other dogs to protect one another. For this reason, Bill and Ben don’t always enjoy the company of other dogs. In saying that their new owners can take corrective measures to introduce the boys to new dogs.
Cats?
Yes.
Kids?
Yes however, any kids should be teenagers or older and only if gentle and calm with dogs.
Size.
6 Kgs each.
Exercise requirements?
Low - short strolls or playtime at home. Bill isn’t a fan of long walks but loves to get out, have a smell and experience new surroundings. Ben is similar however, he is more active and could even go for a short run.
How is this dog on a lead?
Like most dogs they are ok unless distracted.
How is this dog off the lead?
They tend to take off and don’t come back when called.
Escape artist?
No however, they will wander off if a gate or door is left open. We recommend a secure medium sized interesting yard.
Nuisance barker?
Bill and Ben will alert you to something strange around their property. Hence, we don’t recommend homes where there is a lot of foot traffic or high density living e.g. strata complex. However, they can be trained not to bark.
Destructive?
No.
Toilet trained?
Bill and Ben are very reliable and usually toilet outside. While they know to avoid carpet they might have the odd accident on tiles which is probably more to do with wanting attention at the moment.
Tolerance to being alone.
They cope well alone. Being together means that Bill and Ben can stay home for around 6-7hours. Upon return Bill and Ben will compete for your affection so be sure you have plenty to go around.
Likes.
The dogs like each other and their human family. They also like being involved with what is happening and will shadow you around the garden. Their favourite activity is to join the family relaxing of an evening on their mats or Bill on your lap and Ben with his chin resting on you.
Contractual Note: Bill and Ben cannot be separated after adoption in accordance with the Dog Adoption Terms and Conditions. Dog Adoption may ask for updates from time to time.

______________________________________
We strongly recommend you read the profile carefully where everything we know about the dog/s is outlined.
If you are interested in a dog we invite you to submit an application form so we can learn more about your circumstances. This is to ensure we match the right dog to the best home. (one form per family - not per dog) https://www.dogadoption.org.au/expression-of-interest---adoption.html
This is for the benefit of both the dog and the potential new owner(s). It also saves time and uses limited resources more effectively.
Once the essential criteria is confirmed we put you in touch with the carer for a more detailed chat with a view of meeting the dog(s).
If you decide to proceed with the adoption we make a time for a house check.
The adoption fee is then paid (there is a 2 week cooling off period.) Please note we offer a 2 week cooling off period but do not usually allow trials. See here for the difference https://www.dogadoption.org.au/can-my-dogs-new-owner-have-a-trial-period-before-deciding-to-adopt.html
Foster carers are also able to adopt foster dogs once approved.
