About Debby
Hi I’m Debby the Kelpie. I had my own Facebook page for a while when I came into foster care, so I’m a little bit famous!
I have a pretty face, am slight of build, have beautiful deep auburn hair, a happy disposition and a sense that life is good. I am also a type 1 diabetic and have cataracts which limit my vision. But I don’t let those things get me down.
I am an inside dog who loves to be close to my humans, having a couple of squishy beds to flop on. I have a yellow PJ coat for cold days and nights and a puppy pen to sleep in where I can hide my favourite bone under the cushions.
I can sit if you ask but because this is such fun I have to jump up and do a happy dance. My happy dance is so funny that it makes everyone smile. Sometimes I will jump up on my humans to greet them. I like it when they sit on the floor with me, because I can snuggle with them.
When we are outside I will come when called if you also clap your hands a few times so that I can follow the sounds, especially if there is not a lot of light as I might not be able to see you.
I have a fenced yard to keep me safe from wandering and have a human outside with me – I have become more in tune with ‘grass’ and more importantly ‘wet grass’ over the time I have been fostered. It was very foreign to me at first, and the wetter it is the higher I step. Now that I am ok with ‘grass’ I love to roll on my back in it.
I get on with my two foster doggie sisters and the cat, and will run and bark with them as they chase the ball (not the cat). I do not know what this “BALL” is as I cannot see it nor do I recognise the smell, so I am content just running around following the others.
Bath time is a treat. I love bath time as everyone comes to the bath in the back yard and brings me toys which they drop in the water whilst I am being soaped up and rinsed. Then I get to be towel dried and stay in the sun for a while.
I have a really strict eating regime that fits in with my insulin as it is really important for my health and wellbeing. I eat at 7 and have my insulin injection at 8, morning and night. We have a medication chart for people to sign and keep the record. Mum comes to me at 8 and says ‘I have your insulin, sit down’. I get a spoonful of can food after coz I am so good (mostly). I have learnt that SEVEN and EIGHT are really important times. My diabetes is not a problem as it is controlled and I am feeling really good.
I am looking for a family where I can be loved and be a valued member, joining in your activities. I know I will love you because that is my nature. Contact Precious Paws and come meet me soon!
Love,
Debby
