About Monkey (Australian Capital Territory)
Monkey is an engaging and lovable young Kelpie cross puppy with a beautiful nature. You can follow his progress in foster care here at his blog: https://koalathebear.dreamwidth.org/tag/monkey
He is very alert, clever, trainable and affectionate. Although initially quite timid and shy when he came into care, he is rapidly coming out of his shell and loves pats and cuddles. He is quite calm for a puppy and has an off-switch. While he can still be a little sensitive and hesitant in new situations, he is coming along very well.
Monkey is crate-trained and sleeps quietly through the night. He travels well in a car, whether in a harness or in a crate. He can sit and drop. Monkey's house-training is still a work in progress and he still has the occasional accident - but he is making very good progress. He has learned how to use a dog door.
Monkey has learned to sit and wait for his food. He is currently living with three other dogs and is very dog friendly. He loves people, is good around small children and has been socialised with turtles.
Monkey loves playing with toys and is very playful and cheeky like his name. As a Kelpie mix, he is in need of both intellectual stimulation and enrichment as well as physical exercise that is appropriate to his age. Working dogs like Monkey find their own fun if they do not receive ongoing training and boundaries. He is likely to grow into a big dog, would be best in a home with only older children or very calm younger children.
Monkey would be fine as a solo dog but he is very sociable so would absolutely love a doggy buddy with whom to play and from whom to learn doggy manners.
Please note that Monkey is still a puppy so should not do any hard exercise (long walks, jogging, alongside a bicycle, frisbee) until he is at least around 14 months old and he has finished growing. Until then, he should have only short walks and gentle exercise.
We are accepting expressions of interest which can be submitted at this online form here: http://www.4lyfe.org.au/adoption-application so that you may be included on the waiting list for consideration. Please note that Monkey will be placed with the the most suitable ‘forever’ home based on Monkey's (and his adopter’s) personality and needs and that adoption is not on a first in first serve basis.
