Kitten tsunami crashes in to AWL QLD
An incredible 120 animals arrived at the Animal Welfare League of Qld’s Coombabah shelter yesterday, and with many of those already pregnant, that figure has already been revised after five kittens were born overnight.
Public relations manager Gabrielle Wheaton said if people did not come forward and adopt today, or register as foster carers, the not-for-profit organisation would have to start temporarily turning people away.
“Currently we are asking those people looking to surrender their dogs and cats to go on a waiting list as we simply don’t have room for them,” Miss Wheaton said.
“Yesterday we took in 120 cats and dogs – not just from Gold Coast residents no longer able to care for their pets and their unexpected litters, but also from council pounds at Logan, Ipswich, and Beaudesert.
“Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, we were also able to give surrendered animals from Ipswich another chance at life, but without help we simply cannot continue to do so.
“When more than 100 animals arrive and only 6 are adopted it really puts the pressure on.”
