Cavy Rescue full to the brim with gorgeous piggies
The Australian Cavy Sanctuary (ACS) Brisbane Shelter is in urgent need of extra funding/assistance. The shelter is currently struggling with now 150 guinea pigs at the shelter with 70 guinea pigs available for adoption and with several more on foster care, and more guinea pigs due to arrive at the shelter by the weekend.
The ACS does not receive any form of government funding and is struggling to keep up with the funds needed to supply constant hay, vegetables, bedding, grains and medical care/treatment to the large number of guinea pigs currently at the shelter.
“I have 12 guinea pigs in treatment and have had several large backyard breeding cases of late which has resulted in the excessive amount of guinea pigs that have been surrendered. Many of the sows that have come through the doors are pregnant” says Jessica, Manager of the Brisbane Shelter.
The group have put together a ‘wish list’ of items needed to help them through this busy time
Guinea Pig Cages
Due to the rapid influx of surrenders to the shelter we are running very low on suitable enclosures to house guinea pigs in. Anything 1m or larger is suitable. If made of timber we request that the enclosure be in good condition and that any animals previously housed in the enclosure did not have mites or fungal conditions as spores in the timber can be difficult to eliminate).
Revolution
dog/cat topical flea/mite treatment
Guinea pig water bottles / houses / beds if possible
Bedding (shredded newspaper, woodshavings, recycled paper kitty litter)
Any Vegetable / Grass or Hay (grassy, barley hay prefered)
The group also is also calling for financial support and more information about making a donation can be found by visiting their website;
