Animal Welfare League Australia officially launched Monday 1 September

On September 1st,  the state based Animal Welfare Leagues throughout Australia joined together to form a national body, know as Animal Welfare League Australia.

The AWLA seeks to be recognised as the peak companion animal welfare organisation in Australia, providing information and research on important animal welfare issues to the Federal, State and Local Governments as well as the pet industry.

With combined experience of over 200 years, the member organisations have cared for millions of animals, providing veterinary care when owners cannot afford treatment for their pets, emotional care, food, shelter and rehoming cats and dogs when they have been abandoned.

There are nine shelters operating across Australia with over 20,000 animals saved and rehomed each year.

AWLA will exist to uphold and promote the welfare of companion animals and to facilitate animal/human relationships.
