(VIC) Volunteers save threatened mutts
Small dogs that find themselves unwanted and on death row must thank their lucky stars when Kae Norman comes in.
Ms Norman runs Rescued With Love, which swoops in to save pound dogs that have not found a home in the allotted time.
Together with 15 kind-hearted volunteer foster carers, Rescued With Love has saved hundreds of death row inmates in the past five years.
Ms Norman said it was heartbreaking leaving dogs behind in pounds to be euthanased.
But she could only choose dogs to match available foster care placements.
"I walk past and choose dogs I can take and I just have to leave the others behind," she said.
Rescued With Love takes care of any medical conditions before attempting to find the right homes for the dogs - rather than the other way around.
"We think of the dog first," she said.
Ms Nelson said there was no point housing an animal inappropriately because chances were it could end up back on death row.
Dogs had to be suitable for children and other pets.
Volunteer Simone McDonald, who also works at a pound, said she could not take watching good-natured, healthy dogs euthanased so she became a foster carer.
