Pet Dumping Crisis at RSPCA
Additional video on the situation at the RSPCA NSW
The RSPCA is bursting at the seams with cats and dogs that have been abandoned by their owners.
RSPCA Spokeswoman Marianne Harrison says every day more and more animals are being dumped and there’s no room left to house them all.
“We’ve reached the point where we just can’t accept any more animals because we don’t have anywhere to put them.”
“Boxes filled with unwanted kittens are being left on our door step and we now have a waiting list for people wanting to responsibly surrender their
pets.”
Mrs Harrison says the most concerning thing is that the RSPCA’s PawsCentral has reached full capacity weeks before what is traditionally the charity’s busiest time of the year.
“Every Christmas and New Year we are swamped with strays and unwanted pets and this current housing crisis doesn’t bode well for the festive season.”
“Our current situation is yet another example of why the State Government should increase funding to the RSPCA.
It costs more than $4 million to operate the RSPCA and the State Government gives us just $250,000.”
With more funding the RSPCA would have the resources to house more animals.
