Molly Meldrum helps out homeless dogs

Music guru Ian "Molly" Meldrum has lent his weight to dog homelessness in Melbourne by adopting a pooch.

Pet food producer Pedigree has teamed up with PetRescue to give homeless dogs a second chance through adoption.

Meldrum adopted his first dog through a Melbourne animal shelter, and having recently lost another dog, he sees the adoption drive as an ideal way to find another four-legged companion, Pedigree said on Friday.

Pedigree says the rocky economic climate, together with growing homelessness, is resulting in more dogs being given up or abandoned.
