Give an older pet a chance these holidays

Hi my name is Kay and I'm a volunteer at Animal Protection Society. I would just like to put in a good word for all the older dogs who are overlooked in refuges.

I got my dog Bonzo when he was seven and a half, he was one of the residents at the APS when I first started volunteering there and as soon as people saw how old he was they passed him by.

Bonzo has been part of my family now for four years and has been the best dog I have ever owned. He is very well behaved friendly with other animals and humans, he even likes cats. The only time he has ever had to go to the vets is to get his annual shots and checkup.

So to all the folk who are worried about adopting an older dog, please just give it some thought, they may not be with you quite as many years but they need someone to love and care for them too...

My dog has brought me so much joy
He often makes me smile.
He lifts my spirits when I’m down
When life seems such a trial.

My dog will always be my friend
No matter what I do
He never judges how I look
Or thoughtless things I do

My dog has made me feel secure
He always guards my home
He protects me and defends me
When I am all alone.

My dog devotes himself to me
And something I have learned
Is all he ever asks for
Is to be loved in return.
