Pet stores are selling diseased cats, dogs and birds, with more than 100 complaints received by Consumer Protection so far this year.
It is an increase of more than 10 per cent compared with the previous six months.
Consumer Protection retail branch manager Steven Meagher said several complaints were also made against pet stores and private breeders misrepresenting dog breeds.
Perth resident Julie Sutherland lodged a complaint with Consumer Protection after buying a dog suffering from parvovirus, an infectious disease.
