Virtual Parrots?
Do you long for a pet but aren't quite ready for the the long term commitment? Are you a bird lover that appreciates the beauty and uniqueness of Australian parrots, but know that you don't have the time to spend on training, enrichment and bonding with your bird? Well the Parrot Rescue Centre may have the answer with 'virtual parrot adoption'.
No they aren't selling virtual birds, but running an virtual adoption program that allows you to become a 'parrot parent' and helps rescue parrots that are most in need.
Dedicated parrot enthusiasts Zarita Garozzo is the founder of the Parrot Rescue Centre and runs the virtual adoption program. 'There is a major increase in the trend to own a parrot in Australia, as there seems to be a perceived view that a bird is an easy low maintenance companion pet, but the associated care with owning a parrot can greatly out weigh that of owning a dog or cat'. The Parrot Rescue Centre takes in, cares for and rehabilitates unwanted, abused and neglected parrots.
By 'adopting' a parrot you will be supporting a parrot that needs to remain in long term care at the Centre. Virtual adopters will receive:
* A 'Certificate of Adoption' for your bird
* A photograph of your adopted bird
* A biography of your adopted bird
* Two written updates a year on your birds progress
* E-mail update on your bird's health, diet and life here at the Parrot Rescue Centre
* You are welcome to send special bird-safe toys or treats which will be given to your bird (which we can report back to you on!)
* Special visiting rights: You are welcomed to the sanctuary with up to six visits a year (bi-monthly). You and a friend will be shown the sanctuary by Zarita or a PRC Assistant, see the individual parrots in their care, find out about parrot life at the sanctuary, and most importantly visit your adopted parrot and see first hand the progress they are making because of your help.
