Dear PetRescue - I'm looking for an undesexed pet

Dear PetRescue,

I'm looking at breeding my staffy cross but all of the female dogs I'm interested in are desexed. Can you alert me when you get any that are not desexed?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your email and good on you for considering a rescue!

You won’t find a rescue group that will release a dog desexed and there’s a very good reason for this – there are already hundreds of thousands of dogs being born each year that will never find a home… so no rescue group will want to help you produce more.

Obviously you’re keen to breed your dog – and we can understand why! Puppies *are* cool! But too many dogs is a real problem in Australia and we’re not exaggerating in the slightest when we say that this year more than 120,000 dogs will be killed...

... because of people like you.

For each one that dies, someone is responsible for producing it – your puppies will die. You may feel like you can find homes for your puppies, but in doing so you’re taking away homes from dogs in shelters, that will then have to die because those homes aren't available for them - YOU are totally responsible for their needless death.

Sound dramatic? Am I out of line? Not in the slightest. When you look into the eyes of a beautiful cross bred dog – friendly, young and perfectly suited to a long happy life with a family… and instead of sending him home, you inject him with poison and then stack his dead body with all the others - your “quota” for the day - you’ll understand why people in rescue are so tired of hearing that you should be allowed to breed more.

We beg you - please don’t breed your dog.
